The Ashes of the Forest is a lyrical exploration of loss, remembrance, and the landscapes that shape who we become. The novel weaves together threads of traditional Turkish folklore with allegories for the psychological journey of the self and the destabilizing social effects of climate change. Ertürk, Güzide: – Güzide Ertürk is a Turkish-American writer currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at Portland State University. Her work has appeared in Kithe Journal, The Pointed Circle, and The Letter & Line. Her debut novel, Kül Orman¿, was published by Ketebe in 2024 and received the Novel of the Year award from the Writers’ Union of Turkey. She is based in Portland, Oregon.
